Central Bucks South girls break 4x800 record
State Meet Highlights Top Performances:
Top Teams: In a team competition where more than 80 schools score on each side of the gender divide, the AAA championship trophies went to the Hempfield Area girls (52 points) and the Cheltenham boys (41 points).
Top Competition: Christian Brissett of Cheltenham was a big cog in the schools' push for a state title, but his victory in the 200 over Demetrius Lanier of East Stroudsburg went to the thousandths. Brissett and Lanier were both timed officially in 21.52 but Brissett was awarded the victory after examination of the finish photo. Lanier, running his fifth race of the meet, was tired but came on to challenge Brissett in the final 20 meters. Record-breaker: The Central Bucks South quartet of Kaitlin Poiesz, Amber Stratz, Alexa Kwapinski and Brianna Stratz smashed the state record in the 4x800 – an event with proud history in Pennsylvania – with 8:51.49. And they did it decisively, taking almost four seconds off the old record.
